Stakeholders/property owners:
Big Shoals Public Lands (entrance to Little Shoals parking)
Florida Department of Agriculture - Forestry
Town of White Springs - (former Barnett Tract) from US 41 (1.04 mi) to Big Shoals Public Lands (0.6 mi)
Benefits:
- The proposed Woodpecker Trail extension is a safer alternative to riding or walking along CR 135. CR 135 does not have a shoulder and has a higher speed limit.
- U.S. 41 (Spring St.) has a side walk, as well as a marked shoulder and cross walks that are currently used by pedestrians and cyclists.
- It provides easier access for White Springs citizens to walk or ride bikes to the trail head on U.S. 41.
- A 10-mile roundtrip is sufficient to motivate cyclists staying at the State Park or visiting the Suwannee Valley region to explore the trail and see Big Shoals.
- This will help citizens enjoy our natural forests and entice eco-tourists to White Springs.
