The Suwannee River, which flows through the park, is also a major flyway for migrating birds.

The best time to go birding in Big Shoals State Park is during the winter months, when the weather is mild and the birds are more active. However, there are birds to see year-round.

Eagle Lake is 8 miles North of town, on US 41, then Right on SE County Road 137, then Left of SE 78th Pl and Right on SE Eagle Lake.

Alligator Lake in Lake City has a few hiking trails around the lake. From White Springs take US 41 S to US 90 in Lake City, then head East for 2 miles then turn right on S Avalon Ave.
